Well hello there, and welcome to my little corner of the blogosphere. I’m Lorna, a 40-year old fitness professional living in Preston. Although in an ideal world, I’d be living in the countryside surrounded by cats and stroking kittens for a living.
You can read more about my fitness journey here, but the short version is I’ve been hooked on exercise since I was 15-years old. As soon I discovered Kathy Smith’s Fat Burning Workout in my local library, there was no turning back!
But my real journey began when I started college and discovered I could get a free gym pass for my local leisure centres. Even though I wasn’t exactly sure what I was doing, I loved the way exercise made me feel. I felt like I could take on the world, and it’s been my coping mechanism for pretty much everything ever since!
What I do
I currently work as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.
I started out as an aerobics instructor, closely followed by teaching step and then spinning classes. I still hold a lot of love in my heart for my teaching days.
I’m shocked that so many women are intimidated by the gym and exercise in general. I’m also discovering that many women feel more comfortable having a female trainer. This is where my passion lies. Helping women to feel confident with exercise, whether it’s at home, or in a gym.
My qualifications are with Premier Training, and the Central YMCA.
What the hell is Kale and Kettlebells?
Good question. The best way I can describe Kale and Kettlebells is as a healthy living and vegan lifestyle blog. You’ll find it bursting with information on a range of topics including fitness, well-being, vegan lifestyle, travel, recipes and a few other random topics that may crawl into my head from time-to-time. Along with some useful information, you’ll also find a few personal essays and snippets of real life thrown in for good measure.
I do my best to live an ethical and compassionate lifestyle. I’ve been vegetarian for 9 years and vegan since 2016. You can read more about my vegan journey here.
Well-being is important to me and I find looking after my mind just as important as looking after my body. Although I feel most at home either running or lifting weights, I still take time to meditate and spend some time in reflection each day.
Exercising daily is non-negotiable for me. I like to hit the gym or go for a run while most people are still snoozing. It’s my favourite way to start the day and once my workout is done I can tackle anything.
I’m an outdoorsy kinda girl and when time permits I love nothing more than heading up to the Lake District and going walking. I’m also partial to exploring the wonderful gardens that the National Trust have to offer.
When I’m not sweating it out at the gym, or hiking up a mountain, you can find me renovating our 1950s bungalow, curled up with a good book or learning how to play the ukulele.
I’d really love for you to stay a while and have a mooch around, so grab a brew and a biscuit, pull up a chair and make yourself at home.
